NOTICE

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES ACT 1995

I, THE HONOURABLE SIR GUY STEPHEN MONTAGUE GREEN, Companion of the Order of Australia, Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting under the provisions of Sections 4, 6 and 7 of the Legislative Council Electoral Boundaries Act 1995, hereby appoint the members and alternate members of the Redistribution Tribunal, specify the purposes for which the Tribunal is appointed and specify the period which may be required for the proper performance of the functions of the Tribunal under the Act.

I appoint as members of the Tribunal:
DAVID JOHN FARRELL, Chief Electoral Officer, as a member required by Section 6(1) of the Act; and

CHRISTOPHER MAURICE ROWE, Surveyor-General, as a member required by Section 6(1) of the Act; and

RODNEY JOHN CASWELL, who has been nominated by the Australian Statistician, as a member required by Section 6(1) of the Act.

ROBERT RICHARD NETTLEFOLD as the member required by Section 6(1)(a) of the Act; and

JULIAN ORMOND GREEN as the member required by Section 6(1)(b) of the Act.

I appoint in pursuance of Section 7(1) of the Act as the alternate members of the Tribunal:
PETER DAVID BAKES as the alternate member for Christopher Maurice Rowe. Mr Bakes holds the same qualifications as Mr Rowe.

CASSANDRA SHORT, who has been nominated by the Australian Statistician, as the alternate member for Rodney John Caswell. Ms Short holds the same qualifications as Mr Caswell.

PETER ETHRINGTON EVANS as the alternate member for Robert Richard Nettlefold. Mr Evans holds the same qualifications as Mr Nettlefold.

PETER JOHN BOYCE as the alternate member for Julian Ormond Green. Mr Boyce holds the same qualifications as Mr Green.

The Tribunal is appointed for the purpose of performing the functions of the Tribunal under Divisions 4, 5 and 5A of Part 2 of the Act including:

  • considering objections to the initial redistribution proposal made by the Redistribution Committee, inquiring into objections, making any further redistribution proposals, considering and inquiring into further objections, and determining the names and boundaries of the electoral divisions into which the State is to be distributed; and
  • the making of an initial transition proposal, considering comments, suggestions and objections, inquiring into matters raised in the comments, suggestions and objections and making a determination of the transition arrangements to implement the redistribution of the State in respect of the Legislative Council.

I specify the period which is required for the proper performance of the functions of the Tribunal under the Act as being from the date of this Notice until 31 March 1999
